South of the Nubian Desert, generally classed as part of the Sahara, are the coastal deserts of east Africa. These deserts include the Danakil and Ogaden deserts of Ethiopia and the Didi Galgalu desert of Kenya and Somalia. Most of the east African deserts are west of the Great Rift Valley, which runs south from the Red Sea. In the north, the Danakil desert sits in the valley itself, extending from Eritrea across to Djibouti.
